Artpress compiles interviews with 1980s-90s New York art scene giants

Artpress has released 'Les grands entretiens : La scène new-yorkaise années 1980-90', a collection of interviews with key figures from the New York art scene of the 1980s and 1990s. The volume features conversations with artists Julian Schnabel, David Salle, Neil Jenney, Robert Longo, David Hammons, Eric Fischl, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Matthew Barney, and Richard Prince. Interviewers include Catherine Millet, Robert Storr, Noah Fleischer, Bruce Ferguson, Jérôme Sans, and Massimiliano Gioni. The interviews were mostly recorded at the end of the 1980s, when these artists had reached full maturity. The book aims to capture the vitality of an era that saw the rise of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, the global emergence of rap culture, and a complete renewal of painting. Nearly thirty years after the recordings, these artists remain prominent figures in the contemporary art world.
