ArTorin photomontages insert art masterpieces into contemporary Turin

Michi Galli, a 20-year-old student at Accademia Albertina di Torino, launched ArTorin, a project that uses photomontage to place characters from famous artworks into everyday Turin settings. Examples include René Magritte's lovers in a cinema, Vincent Van Gogh's Postman Joseph Roulin in a modern post office, Gustav Klimt's Judith walking on Corso Roma, subjects from Honoré Daumier's The Third-Class Carriage on a bus, and Édouard Manet's barmaid serving at McDonald's. Galli shares the images on Instagram and Facebook every Wednesday, aiming to make art feel alive and contemporary. The most popular image so far shows Francesco Hayez's The Kiss set at Porta Nuova station, symbolizing a farewell between lovers. The project was inspired by Cartoorin, a Facebook page by Marianna Boiano that places Disney characters in Turin scenes, which gained over 10,000 followers. Galli hopes to eventually hold a major exhibition.
