Artnet and Artsy Lay Off Dozens After Merger, Toronto Biennial Announces 2026 Edition

institutional · 2026-04-17

On April 16, a number of employees at Artnet and Artsy lost their jobs due to their recent merger. A spokesperson informed Hyperallergic that this move is part of a plan to merge the teams, which includes shutting down Artnet's operations in Germany. Among those affected were senior journalists Sarah Cascone and Eileen Kinsella. Beowolff Capital acquired Artnet for $65 million, marking its shift to a private company after over 25 years on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In early 2025, Artnet saw its revenue decrease by 12%. Jeffrey Yin has stepped in as CEO, with Andrew Wolff serving as chairman. The Toronto Biennial of Art will run from September 26 to December 20, featuring more than 30 artists. Royce K. Young Wolf has been appointed as associate curator of Native Arts at the Denver Art Museum.
