ARTMargins Launches Interview Series on Russian Contemporary Painting with Yevgeniy Fiks

ARTMargins Online has initiated a new interview series titled 'Painterly Practice and the Post-Socialist Condition,' conceived and compiled by Yulia Tikhonova. The series examines art production in the post-Soviet era, with a particular emphasis on painting. While one thread will explore how Russian painters engage with the Soviet past, this will not be the exclusive focus. The series begins with a conversation featuring New York-based artist Yevgeniy Fiks. In his work, Fiks creates portraits of current members of the American Communist party, using this project to investigate his personal stance. The interviews aim to provide insight into contemporary artistic practices emerging from Russia. The series was launched in December 2006.
