ArtLords and Paratissima create murals for Afghan girls' education in Turin
In Turin, Paratissima and the Afghan artist collective ArtLords—comprising Lima Ahmad, Omaid Sharifi, and Kabir Mokamel—reproduced 3x6 meter wallpapers in the Galoppatoio dell'ARTiglieria depicting murals erased by the Taliban. The initiative highlights the right to education for Afghan women and girls. Citizens of Turin later participated in creating an additional mural, described by the artists as "a tribute to the young girls in Afghanistan whom the Taliban prevented from going to school." The mural shows a determined girl holding a map of Afghanistan filled with art, culture, and color, accompanied by a famous song lyric from an Afghan diaspora singer: "Oh my beloved country! Finally I will build you by myself." The project aims to maintain global attention on Afghanistan's human rights situation after media pressure dropped following the Taliban's takeover of Kabul in August 2021.
