Artists Transform Regina Coeli Prison with Collaborative Murals
Three female artists—Laura Federici, Pax Paloscia, and Camelia Mirescu—have been running a creative workshop at Regina Coeli prison in Rome since March 2016. The project, titled outside/inside/out, engages inmates in decorating interior walls and common spaces with artworks exploring the concept of inside versus outside. Paloscia worked with pop icons, Federici drew on inmates' memories to create landscapes, and Mirescu referenced 16th-century masterpieces. The initiative produced a video, Muri socchiusi, shown at the Fotografia Festival and on display at Macro until March 26, alongside graphic and photographic works. The project is part of L'Arte Dentro, an educational program by Roma Capitale and Zétema progetto cultura, which also included visits to Piazza Navona and the Museo di Roma for Rebibbia inmates last summer.
