Artists Space to vacate longtime SoHo home for new larger venue

institutional · 2026-04-20

Artists Space will depart its longtime headquarters at 38 Greene Street in New York City, a location it has used since 1993. Executive director and curator Stefan Kalmár revealed the organization accepted an early buyout offer from the building's owner, who intends to construct a penthouse addition. The final presentation at this address is a retrospective of Lukas Duwenhögger's work, closing on 5 June. Programming will continue uninterrupted at Artists Space Books & Talks on 55 Walker Street. The move enables the institution to secure a more spacious site in an area better suited to its programming needs than the current SoHo neighborhood.
