Artists Occupy Rome's National Gallery in Performative Protest
On December 11, 2016, the artist collective artisti§innocenti hosted a peaceful event at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna (GNAM) in Rome. Attendees bought their tickets and interacted freely with the artworks, without any museum staff involvement. This event, called OPERA OMNIA, aimed to assess the museum's situation amidst the ongoing debates over space and display changes led by director Cristiana Collu, which stirred conversations in the art world. Artists like Petra Arndt, Pruno Gani, and others were part of this initiative, inviting the public to take photos with the art to create a unique archive. The group has been active since 2007 and had previously organized exhibitions in Rome from August to October 2016.
