Artists Mobilize Against Donald Trump with Creative Protests

As the Republican National Convention approaches in Cleveland on July 17, 2016, artists are increasingly mobilizing against Donald Trump. Photographer Spencer Tunick announced a performance with 100 nude women to protest Trump's policies. Creative communications professionals Douglas Cameron and Tommy Noonan, collaborating with Mexican sculptor Roxana Casillas, built the "Trump Hut," a small habitable structure resembling Trump's hair, described as artistic guerrilla marketing. Inside, symbols of extreme luxury like champagne buckets and advanced tech highlight wealth inequality they believe Trump would exacerbate. In Jacumba Hot Springs, California, artists David Gleeson and Maria Mihelic erected the "Trump Wall" near the US-Mexico border, parodying Trump's proposed border wall. One side features Trump campaign ads; the other displays withered flowers, fruits, and abandoned tools, symbolizing the economic impact of restricted immigration. They sent an invoice for the wall to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, with payment to be sent to Trump Tower.
