Artists Making Books: A Century of Artist Books at the American Academy in Rome
The 'Artists Making Books' exhibition has been launched by the American Academy in Rome, showcasing more than 100 artist books spanning from 1905 to today. This display is divided into four categories: Copertine, Pagine, Azioni, and Collaborazioni. Featured artists include residents such as Alberto Burri, Henri Matisse, Cy Twombly, and Jannis Kounellis. The exhibition utilizes pieces from the Ed Ruscha donation (1963-1971), the Giovanni Aldobrandini Collection, and the Claudia Consolandi Collection. Notable works by Marcel Duchamp, Piero Manzoni, Andy Warhol, and Joan Miró are included. A special section invites visitors to interact with books, including annotated materials by Francesca Woodman. Additionally, the Academy’s Rare Book Library, created by Michael Graves in 1996, is accessible.
