Artists Explore Belonging and Interdependence in Amazonian Exhibition at Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi

The exhibition 'Um rio não existe sozinho' at the Parque Zoobotânico of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi in Belém brings together nine artists and an architecture studio to reflect on ecological interdependence in the Amazon. Curated by Sabrina Fontenele and Vânia Leal, the project connects art, science, and traditional knowledge, serving as a prelude to the UN's COP 30 climate conference scheduled for November 2025 in Belém. Rafael Segatto finds resonance between his work and the museum's scientific focus, while Mari Nagem's piece '41°C' translates data from the historic 2023 drought into thermal imagery. Gustavo Caboco, of the Wapichana people, presents installations referencing spiritual dwellings, and Francelino Mesquita works with traditional miriti material. Elaine Arruda's installation draws from a familial return to the Tijucaquara River. Other participating artists include Noara Quintana, PV Dias, Sallisa Rosa, and Déba Tacana. The exhibition, which runs until December 30, aims to listen to nature as a political subject, fostering affective bonds with the region's natural and cultural heritage, as emphasized by museum representatives Sue Costa and Pedro Pompei.
