Artists and scientists convene at Venaria Reale for seminar on materiality

other · 2026-05-05

The Centro di Conservazione e Restauro (CCR) at the Reggia di Venaria Reale hosted a two-day seminar titled '(Im)-materialità e identità' on January 13-14, 2017. Organized by Paola Nicolin's 'the classroom,' the event brought together artists, historians, art philosophers, and restorers including Piero Gilardi, Marco Scotini, Italo Zuffi, Hilario Isola, Alberto Tadiello, and Paolo Icaro. Participants reflected on materiality and immateriality in their work through personal perspectives and case studies. The seminar took place within the CCR's restoration labs and concluded the 'Handle with care' project by Masbedo. 'The classroom,' based in Milan, is an art and education center that places artists at the core of art history discourse, encouraging individual methodologies. Its courses are free and open to university students at all levels, with credits recognized by partner universities.
