Artists and Curators Play Football Match to Open Ostend Exhibition
On October 21, 2017, Ostend, Belgium, unveiled the exhibition 'The Raft. Art is (not) Lonely,' following the 2015 tribute show 'The Sea – Salut d’honneur Jan Hoet,' which honored curator Jan Hoet (who passed away in 2014). Curated by Jan Fabre and Joanna De Vos, the event encompasses 22 locations, such as Mu.ZEE and the courthouse, and will continue until April 15, 2018. The exhibition showcases 73 artists and introduces 52 new pieces, including 18 performances, inspired by Théodore Géricault's 'The Raft of the Medusa' (1818) and Jan Fabre's work from the late 1980s. The launch featured a performance football match with participants in historical costumes, highlighting artists like Bill Viola, Steve McQueen, and Marina Abramovic.
