Artists and Critics Face Off: The State of Art Criticism in 2011

On Saturday, November 26, 2011, from 6 to 8 PM, the Collège des Bernardins in Paris hosted a debate on the state of art criticism, organized by Léa Bismuth. The event featured critics and theorists including Paul Ardenne, Charles-Arthur Boyer, Thomas Fougeirol, Catherine Millet, Anaël Pigeat, and artist Julião Sarmento. It coincided with the release of artpress2 issue 23, dedicated to masterpieces of the 21st century. The publication asked contributors to select a work from the nascent 21st century that they deemed significant, explaining how it changed their thinking. The resulting selection, though not necessarily a canon of masterpieces, reflects careful consideration and personal engagement.
