Artist Vinyls by Mace and Canemorto, and Ennio Morricone's Soundtrack on Vinyl for First Time
Two late-summer music releases are highlighted: Mace's instrumental album 'Oltre' on Island Records, with a special embroidered vinyl edition created with artist trio Canemorto, and Ennio Morricone's soundtrack for Aldo Lado's 1975 thriller 'L'Ultimo Treno della Notte' released on vinyl for the first time by AMS Records. Mace (Simone Benussi) released 'Oltre' in late May 2022, following his double-platinum album 'OBE' (2021). The album is entirely instrumental, describing psychedelic experiences, with the 20-minute opening track as a suite depicting different phases of a psychedelic trip, and 'Sangoma' inspired by a Zulu initiation ritual. Canemorto designed a special edition vinyl with an embroidered cover using silk, viscose, and burmilana threads on crêpe fabric via multicording technique, creating a cover-sack that can double as a pillowcase. The Morricone soundtrack, originally only released as a 45 rpm single with 'Coincidenze' and a medley, plus a rare Japanese 7" of 'A Flower's All You Need' by Demis Roussos, now appears in full on a gatefold yellow 180g vinyl. The score includes tense, rhythmic themes reminiscent of Morricone's work on 'Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto', with harmonica by Franco De Gemini. The film, a violent 'rape and revenge' thriller starring Flavio Bucci, Enrico Maria Salerno, and Franco Fabrizi, is described by director Aldo Lado as an attack on bourgeois society and power holders.
