Artist Research Project _rt Movement(s) Challenges Normative Art History

On June 1, 2021, _rt Movement(s) launched as an artist research initiative designed as a textual artifact that embodies the intricate, relational connections between art and history. This endeavor highlights the contingent interactions arising from various movements, such as artists' geographical migrations, the displacement of art pieces, performances, institutions, festivals, and the work of theorists. It critiques the conventional, linear narrative of art history, which often carries nationalist, racialized, and ethnocentric biases. By utilizing a variety of materials like texts, images, graphs, and other visual tools, the project advocates for recognizing the fundamentally translocal and transhistorical nature of artworks. Contributors include Bruno Moreschi, Christopher Bratton, Dalida Maria Benfield, Gabriel Pereira, and Guilherme Falcão, with content hosted on ARTMargins Online and available through MIT Press under a No Access or Subscription Only model.
