Artist Maria Rebecca Ballestra joins UnimediaModern as curator

Artist Maria Rebecca Ballestra has become a partner at UnimediaModern gallery in Genoa, taking on a curatorial role alongside director Caterina Gualco. Ballestra will oversee an experimental program separate from the gallery's main exhibition schedule, while continuing her own artistic practice. The partnership stems from a long-standing collaboration between Ballestra and Gualco, who have worked together on artistic and economic projects. Ballestra emphasized that she will not become part of the gallery's artist roster to avoid conflicts of interest. Her first co-curated project will be a solo show of Philip Corner at Artissima in Turin, within the BACK TO THE FUTURE section. The first solo exhibition she curates at the gallery is scheduled for summer 2018, featuring Brazilian artist Fabio Tremonte (born 1975 in São Paulo). Ballestra's experimental program will function as a project room for artists with social or environmental focuses who are little known in Italy. UnimediaModern was founded in Genoa in 1970 by Caterina Gualco, initially focusing on Conceptual Art, New Writing, Body Art, and performance, and since 1977 has centered on the Fluxus movement. The gallery moved to Palazzo Squarciafico in 2005.
