Artist Mak Hubjer Opens Brodac Gallery in Sarajevo

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Sarajevo welcomed a new contemporary art space called Brodac, founded by 30-year-old Bosnian artist Mak Hubjer. The venue, located in a repurposed kafana, debuted on May 13 with the exhibition "Reconstruction," showcasing the works of eight artists, including Hubjer, Alma Suljević, and Nela Hasanbegović. Hubjer financed the project independently, aiming to cultivate a supportive environment for emerging artists and foster connections beyond traditional galleries. He draws inspiration from fellow artists like Pierre Courtin and Jusuf Hadžifejzović, believing in the power of education to enhance the local creative scene amidst the challenges posed by Sarajevo’s limited art market.
