Artist Jack Dickson paints jailed Post Office victim Seema Misra for BBC series

artist · 2026-04-24

Jack Dickson, an artist from Blandford, Dorset, has painted a portrait of Seema Misra, a former sub-postmistress wrongfully imprisoned during the Post Office Horizon scandal, for the BBC series Extraordinary Portraits with Bill Bailey. Misra, who operated a post office in West Byfleet, Surrey, received a 15-month sentence in 2010 for allegedly stealing £74,000, coinciding with her eldest son’s 10th birthday when she was sent to Bronzefield prison. Dickson noted that the artwork symbolizes all the scandal's victims, incorporating hidden layers to tell the story, stating, "you won't see the whole story in the picture... but there's all sorts of stuff behind it." He described it as a "huge privilege" to portray such an "incredible" individual. In April 2025, Misra was honored as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) at Windsor Castle. The portraits from the series will be displayed at The Loading Bay in Bradford starting Friday, May 1, after which Dickson aims to showcase the portrait in southern venues.
