Artist and curator Ian White, known for performance and film, dies after long illness
Ian White, an artist, curator, and longtime ArtReview contributor, has died following a prolonged illness. His artistic focus centered on performance, while he also built a respected career as a curator and educator, drawing on deep expertise in film and video. From 2001 to 2010, White served as adjunct film curator at London's Whitechapel Gallery. Since 2007, he facilitated the LUX Associate Artists Programme, where his sharp wit and profound knowledge guided countless graduate artists in developing their practices. In ArtReview's February 2007 issue, White profiled American filmmaker Robert Beavers, describing him as extraordinary and unconcerned with market or cultural pressures, a figure who should remind the culture industry of the value of taking time to look. These words also reflect White's own career. He was born in 1971 and died in 2013.
