Artissima Turns 25: Sound Section Debuts at OGR Torino
The 25th edition of Artissima opens at OVAL in Turin, with 195 galleries from 35 countries (60% foreign). The fair's theme is 'Time is on our side', celebrating the past while looking forward. A major new section, Sound, debuts at OGR Officine Grandi Riparazioni, featuring works by artists such as Susan Philipsz and Tomás Saraceno. Director Ilaria Bonacossa, in her second year, highlights the fair's anniversary initiatives: 15 patron groups visiting, 25 interviews with key figures (5 directors, 5 curators, 5 collectors, 10 gallerists) shared on social media, and a video campaign stitching past logos onto garments. The New Entries section awards its first New Entries Fair Fund powered by Professional Trust Company to ADA-project (Rome), This Is Not a White Cube (Luanda, Angola), and Cecilia Brunson (London). Bonacossa recommends the 'Artissima Experimental Academy' project DAF Struttura curated by Zasha Colah. She reflects on her career, from her first encounter with contemporary art at the 1999 Venice Biennale curated by Harald Szeemann, to her work at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo with Francesco Bonami, and her directorship at Villa Croce in Genoa.
