Artissima Sound Debuts at OGR Torino with 16 Sonic Art Projects
Artissima, the contemporary art fair in Turin, has launched a new section dedicated solely to sound art, following last year's addition of the Disegni section. Artissima Sound takes place at the OGR (Officine Grandi Riparazioni), a venue already renowned for music events hosting acts like Giorgio Moroder, Chemical Brothers, Kraftwerk, and New Order. The section features 16 monographic projects selected by two international curators: Yann Chateigné Tytelman, a curator and art critic based in Berlin and associate professor at HEAD Geneva, and Nicola Ricciardi, artistic director of OGR. Fourteen galleries participate, with Mazzoli (Modena and Berlin) presenting three projects. The works emphasize limited interactivity, treating sound pieces as valuable as visual art and thus requiring preservation. Notable historical works include Ugo La Pietra's 1967 installation 'Audio Casco' (four audio helmets creating micro-sound environments) presented by Studio Dabbeni of Lugano, and a reconstruction of Charlemagne Palestine's 1975 exhibition at Sonnabend Gallery in New York, shown at OGR by Galleria Levi.Delval of Brussels. Other highlights include Christina Kubisch's labyrinth of yellow-green cables with sound circuits activated by headphones (Mazzoli), Susan Philipsz presented by Isabella Bortolozzi (Berlin) and Ellen De Bruijne (Amsterdam), Marzio Zorio's wooden bars with magnetic tape and amplifier (Raffaella De Chirico, Turin), and Tomás Saraceno's installation (Pinksummer, Genoa).
