Artissima director Ilaria Bonacossa on post-pandemic fair strategies

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

In an interview, Ilaria Bonacossa, the director of Artissima, reflects on the fair's response to the pandemic. Scheduled for November 5-8, the 2020 edition will introduce a third iteration of Artissima Junior, which emphasizes portraiture and collaboration, in partnership with Juventus and under the guidance of Diego Perrone. Bonacossa suggests that fairs with local connections can evolve sustainably, with a trend towards smaller, more intimate events. Since 2017, Artissima has prioritized digital initiatives, and the application deadline has been extended to May. The curatorial team for 2020 includes Ilaria Gianni, Fernanda Brenner, Lorenzo Giusti, Mouna Mekouar, Letizia Ragaglia, Bettina Steinbrügge, and Valerio Del Baglivo. ARTISSIMA IN PROGRESS will debut in June, while the physical event might have restricted access. Collectors continue to invest in art as a stable asset.
