Artissima 2024: The Era of Daydreaming Opens in Turin
Artissima, Italy's most prestigious contemporary art fair, opened its 2024 edition at the Oval in Turin under the theme 'The Era of Daydreaming,' curated by director Luigi Fassi in his third year. The fair features 189 galleries with a focus on emerging artists and curated sections. The 'Present Future' section, curated by Léon Kruijswijk of KW Berlin and Joel Valabrega of Galeria Municipal Porto, showcases new commissions, including Isabelle Andriessen's alien-like sculptures at Pott gallery. 'Back to the Future,' curated by Heike Munder and Jacopo Crivelli Visconti of Albuquerque Foundation Sintra, revives overlooked female artists like Liliana Maresca (at Rolf Art, Buenos Aires), Carmen Dyonise (at Richard Saulton), and Marion Baruch (at Urs Miele). 'New Entries' presents 15 emerging galleries, with Clara Hastrup's immersive installation at Milan's Matta gallery drawing crowds. Other highlights include Bastien Gachet's dystopian installation at Astuni and Nevine Mahmoud's decapitated sculptures at Soft Opening. The fair runs through November 2024.
