Artissima 2024 Sales Report: Mixed Results for Turin Fair
The 31st edition of Artissima, Turin's contemporary art fair, concluded on November 3, 2024, with mixed commercial results. While the quality of offerings was high, demand was sluggish due to a crowded fair calendar, economic contraction, and a holiday weekend. Sales were slow, uncertain, and concentrated in mid-to-low price ranges. Notable sales included Viasaterna's sold-out ceramic works by Camilla Gurgone (around €2,000) and works by Teresa Giannico (€3,000–7,000). Tiziana Di Caro sold works by Damir Ocko and Luca Gioacchino di Bernardo. Galleries like Alfonso Artiaco reported a slight decline, with mostly national visitors and sales in mid-range prices for artists like Diego Cibelli and Gioberto Noro. Raffaella Cortese noted slow start but eventual acceleration, selling works by Gabrielle Goliath, Anna Maria Maiolino, and others. Mazzoleni reported strong attendance and sales for Marinella Senatore and others. Madragoa won the Carol Rama Award for Belen Uriel and sold works by Debashish Paul. Eleven awards were given, including the Illy Present Future prize to Angharid Williams (Fanta – MLN). The Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT acquired 10 works for €280,000, destined for Castello di Rivoli and GAM Torino, by artists including Sara Enrico, Chiara Fumai, Zhanna Kadyrova, Guglielmo Castelli, and Chantal Joffe.
