Artissima 2018: 25th Edition with Sound Section and Boutique Model
Artissima, Turin's international contemporary art fair, celebrates its 25th anniversary with a new off-site sound section at OGR, a reduced number of galleries, and a redesigned visual identity. The fair runs from November 1 (preview) to November 4, 2018, at Oval Torino, under director Ilaria Bonacossa. A new section called Sound, curated by Yann Chateigné Tytelman and Nicola Ricciardi, will feature 15 monographic projects dedicated to sound art. The fair aims to downsize to around 180 galleries, down from 206 in 2017, adopting a 'boutique' model. The New Entries section will be advised by Lucrezia Calabrò Visconti, and Alessandro Pasotti joins the selection committee. The Drawing section returns, and Back to the Future focuses on the 1980-1994 period. The visual identity by studio FIONDA reinterprets 25 years of fair imagery. Bonacossa emphasizes that Sound represents a resistance to the commodification of art. Concurrent exhibitions in Turin include shows by Petrit Halilaj, Hito Steyerl, Cally Spooner, and Rachel Rose at local institutions. Bonacossa renews her contract for 2018-2020 and plans to improve services.
