Arthur Arbesser named creative director of Fay, reimagines iconic outerwear

other · 2026-05-04

Austrian designer Arthur Arbesser, now based in Milan, has been appointed creative director of Fay, the historic outerwear brand founded in the early 1960s by Mr. Fay in the United States. The brand, known for its four-hook jacket inspired by American work uniforms, was acquired by the Della Valle Group in the 1980s and became synonymous with comfortable, sporty, hi-tech garments for the Italian and international middle-upper class. For the Fall/Winter 2019 collection, Arbesser returns to the brand's workwear roots, reinterpreting iconic pieces with fresh colors and materials: navy blue appears in glossy or matte finishes, while green, yellow, and caramel are deep and intense. Proportions are rethought through enlarged pockets, redefined collars, and graphic prints. The collection blurs men's and women's wardrobes without confusion, inspired by daily commutes, air travel, and exploration. The classic Giaccone 4 Ganci, originally inspired by American firefighter uniforms, becomes a passepartout for the contemporary traveler. Arbesser's style is described as discreet, measured, but sharp and trendy, reflecting a globalized, nomadic world where space and time coordinates blur.
