Artflux launches Sans Souci, first art barge on the Seine by Sébastien Preschoux

Artflux has transformed the barge Sans Souci into a floating artwork, marking its debut as the first art barge on the Seine. The vessel, originally launched in 1937 as La Madeleine for cargo transport between Le Havre and Paris, was sunk during World War II to avoid destruction, refloated in 1945, and later converted into a cruise ship in 1988. In 2026, it underwent a complete redesign by artist Sébastien Preschoux, who applied aquatic colors and dynamic lines to its exterior, creating a visual anchor that draws attention to Parisian architecture. Born in 1974 and based in Paris, Preschoux has nearly two decades of experience exploring optical effects through line work in both two-dimensional paintings and three-dimensional string installations. Interior designer Thomas Heagle crafted the barge's interior with natural-hued materials and textures to evoke synesthetic sensations. Artflux, founded by Géraud Boursin and Nicolas Laugero Lasserre, offers the Sans Souci for private and corporate charters, providing immersive cultural cruises. The barge participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics river parade and is part of Artflux's portfolio of floating venues, including Péniche Marcounet, Fluctuart, Quai de la Photo, Son de la Terre, and the upcoming Nanna. This initiative expands Artflux's decade-long commitment to artistic creation on the Seine.
