Artes Mundi 11 shortlist reveals six international artists for £40,000 prize
Six artists have been shortlisted for Artes Mundi 11, the UK's most lucrative art award, which offers £40,000 and is given biennially. The selected artists are Jumana Emil Abboud, Anawana Haloba, Antonio Paucar, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, Sacintya Mohini Simpson, and Sawangwongse Yawnghwe. Their works will be featured in the AM11 exhibition, touring venues across Wales from 17 October 2025 to 22 February 2026. The prize, based in Cardiff, traditionally honors artists engaged in social practice or political themes. Selectors Zoe Butt, Sohrab Mohebbi, and Marie Helene Pereira noted the artists' stories and inherited memories as timely amid global political tensions. Previous winners include Taloi Havini, Yael Bartana, Teresa Margolles, John Akomfrah, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. The jury anticipates the exhibition will present diverse perspectives and methodologies.
