Artes Mundi 11 Announces 2025-2026 Biennial with Six Shortlisted Artists Across Welsh Venues

The British contemporary art prize Artes Mundi has revealed six artists shortlisted for its 11th edition, scheduled for 2025-2026. Jumana Emil Abboud, Sancintya Mohini Simpson, Anawana Haloba, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, Sawangwongse Yawnghwe, and Antonio Paucar will present work across multiple Welsh venues. Their practices span diverse themes: Abboud explores Palestinian folklore, Simpson addresses colonial omissions, Haloba transforms sketches into performance, Rasheed investigates language, Yawnghwe navigates Burmese politics, and Paucar examines Andean culture. The biennial exhibition runs from 17 October 2025 to 22 February 2026 at the National Museum Cardiff and other locations including Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, MOSTYN, and Chapter. A £40,000 prize will be awarded during this period, continuing the prize's history of featuring artists like Dineo Seshee Raisibe Bopape and Taloi Havini. Curators Zoe Butt, Sohrab Mohebbi, and Marie Helene Pereira selected the artists. The Bagri Foundation serves as presenting partner.
