ARTEPARCO adds yarn bombing installation for centenary of Abruzzo National Park
For the centenary of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise, the ARTEPARCO project has expanded its trail with a yarn bombing installation by the all-female collective Accademia di Aracne. Founded in 2018 by entrepreneur Paride Vitale, ARTEPARCO creates an outdoor exhibition route that blends contemporary art with the park's ecosystem. The new work, titled Totem, consists of two beech trees nearly eight meters tall wrapped in fireproof, weather-resistant embroidered fabric featuring geometric silhouettes of 16 animals that inhabit the park, eight per tree. The collective, led by Shirley Rowlands, drew inspiration from Native American totem poles to symbolize the mystical bond between humans and nature. Previous installations along the trail include Marcantonio's Animale Vegetale (Il Cuore) from 2018, Matteo Fato's conceptual frames (2019), Alessandro Pavone's wooden hand sculpture (2020), Sissi's ceramic Radicorno (2021), and Valerio Berruti's Liberi tutti (2022). The trail is easily accessible from Pescasseroli.
