Artemisia Gentileschi's Madonna and Child up for auction in Rome

A rare autograph replica of Artemisia Gentileschi's Madonna and Child will be auctioned by Babuino Auction House in Rome from April 5 to 7, 2022. The oil on canvas (117×100 cm) is estimated at €100,000-150,000 and has been dated by Prof. Claudio Strinati to the early 1630s. The work was originally attributed to Bernardo Strozzi and Francesco Cozza before being correctly assigned to Gentileschi following the discovery of a 1637 inventory. It later entered the Veralli collection and then the Spada collection through marriage. The auction also features works by Giovanni Battista Beinaschi, Alberto Carlieri, Jacopo Amigoni, and Ippolito Caffi.
