Artemisia Gentileschi's Judith on Display in Florence for Anti-Violence Day
In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, established by the United Nations, Florence will showcase Artemisia Gentileschi's "Judith Beheading Holofernes" at Palazzo Vecchio from November 25 for a three-day period, courtesy of the Uffizi. This artwork symbolizes the triumph of women over oppression, depicting Judith, who saved Bethulia by decapitating Holofernes, alongside Gentileschi, who bravely faced a lengthy trial after being sexually assaulted by her father's friend, Agostino Tassi, in 1611, resulting in Tassi's conviction. Additionally, on November 27 at 19:00, the Casa Internazionale delle Donne in Rome will host an "Art Lottery" featuring ten female artists, with proceeds benefiting women's anti-violence centers. A significant exhibition on the Caravaggist painter will also open at Palazzo Braschi in Rome on November 30, showcasing around 90 works from 1610 to 1652.
