Artemisia Gentileschi Major Exhibition Opens in Genoa

The autumn exhibition season in Genoa kicks off with 'Artemisia Gentileschi. Coraggio e passione' at the Appartamento del Doge in Palazzo Ducale, under the curation of Costantino D'Orazio. This display showcases more than 50 significant works, delving into Gentileschi's personal life and family history, with a segment by Anna Orlando highlighting the artistic impact of her father, Orazio Gentileschi. The exhibition is divided into ten sections, beginning with 'Susanna and the Elders' (1610). Notable pieces include 'Madonna with Child,' 'Saint Cecilia,' and 'Sibyl.' A virtual reality experience features Orazio's fresco and Artemisia's 1611 rape trial. The focus on female protagonists is evident in works like 'Judith and Holofernes' and 'Allegory of Inclination' (1616), available until January 8, 2024, and running from November 16 to April 1, 2024.
