Artelogia: Emanuela Pulvirenti's Innovative Art Textbook for High Schools

publication · 2026-04-27

Italian art blogger Emanuela Pulvirenti has published her first high school art textbook, "Artelogia" (Zanichelli, Bologna 2021), featuring over 6,000 images and a focus on heritage education, cross-disciplinarity, and student interactivity. The three-volume set includes 552, 456, and 600 pages, priced at €34, €35, and €38. The book introduces social aspects of art, non-European artworks to counter Eurocentrism, and contextual images showing works in their original settings. Layout designer Riccardo Falcinelli structured the visual approach to help decode visual language. Each chapter includes comparative activities and a simplified section for special educational needs. Pulvirenti also authored "Artemondo" for middle schools. The textbook has received positive feedback for its inclusion of female artists and extra-European art.
