Artecinema 2019: 24th Edition of Naples' International Contemporary Art Film Festival

The 24th edition of Artecinema, the International Festival of Films on Contemporary Art, returns to Naples from October 9 to 13, 2019, with 30 free screenings at Teatro San Carlo and Teatro Augusteo, plus special screenings in schools and at the Nisida juvenile prison. Curated by Laura Trisorio, the festival features three sections: Art and Surroundings, Architecture, and Photography. The opening night at Teatro San Carlo includes world premieres of documentaries on Carlo Alfano (Carlo Alfano: Between the Self and the Other by Matteo Frittelli, produced by Artecinema in collaboration with the Alfano archive), Ai Weiwei, and Cy Twombly (first monograph). Other highlights include James Turrell: Heaven on Earth (2013) and recent releases. The festival aims to make contemporary art accessible through documentary cinema, with simultaneous translations. Trisorio emphasizes the social impact, noting growing audiences and the importance of synergy with local institutions like Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, Pio Monte della Misericordia, Museo Madre, and Galleria Studio Trisorio.
