Arte132 Galeria Opens in São Paulo with Alex Flemming Solo Show

Arte132 Galeria launched in São Paulo's Moema district in August 2021 with a solo exhibition by Alex Flemming titled 'Alturas,' curated by Angélica de Morais. The gallery, founded by Telmo Porto, aims to spotlight lesser-known works by recognized Brazilian artists and reintroduce overlooked historical figures into the gallery and institutional circuit. Porto, a former engineering professor at the University of São Paulo's Polytechnic School and a museum patron, envisions Arte132 as a multifunctional space hosting discussions, courses, and music recitals. The inaugural show features 15 large-scale paintings from Flemming's 'Alturas' series, begun in 1988, which records the physical heights of admired individuals—including Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Gilberto Gil, and Ayrson Heráclito—on abstract backgrounds. The series transforms a familial habit of measuring children's growth into an artistic 'barcode of our time's culture,' subverting measurement with cultural relevance. The exhibition runs until October 16, 2021, at Av. Juriti, 132 in Moema, with visits from Monday to Friday, 2 PM to 7 PM, and Saturdays, 11 AM to 5 PM.
