Artangel Directors Return to Power 100 with Increased Funding and International Projects

institutional · 2026-04-20

Michael Morris and James Lingwood have reentered the Power 100 list as directors of Artangel, the commissioning agency for large-scale public art projects. Their organization received a significant budget increase from Arts Council England, rising by £200,000 to £754,000. This funding boost recognizes several successful commissions, including Roger Hiorns's 2009 work Seizure, where an abandoned South London house was covered in blue copper sulphate crystals. Another notable project was Susan Philipsz's 2010 public soundwork in the City of London, which contributed to her Turner Prize win last year. Clio Barnard's 2010 documentary film The Arbor also earned multiple awards under Artangel's support. Internationally, Morris and Lingwood have expanded Artangel's reach by co-commissioning Yael Bartana's film trilogy ...and Europe Will Be Stunned for the Polish Pavilion at this year's Venice Biennale. They also co-commissioned Mike Kelley's Mobile Homestead, the artist's first public work, featuring a reconstructed version of his childhood home that toured Detroit streets.
