Artangel Directors Lead Successful Year with London Boat Installation and Mike Kelley Project
James Lingwood and Michael Morris, alumni of Oxford University and former collaborators at the ICA London, have experienced a remarkable year as co-directors of Artangel. Their nonprofit organization showcased A Room for London, a boat installation crafted by David Kohn Architects in collaboration with artist Fiona Banner, situated atop the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. This unique venue welcomed a stellar lineup of artists, musicians, and writers, including Jeremy Deller, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, and Jarvis Cocker. Another key project was Mobile Homestead, one of Mike Kelley's last works before his passing in January; this mobile replica of his childhood home is set for completion next year. Additional projects included contributions from Lindsay Seers and Mark Storor. During this time, both Lingwood and Morris were honored with MBE awards.
