Art World Satirist Jerry Gogosian Found Dead in São Paulo Hotel

On Sunday, May 31, Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, a 40-year-old curator and art satirist known as Jerry Gogosian, was found deceased in a hotel room in São Paulo. Brazilian authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Helphenstein was located at the Rosewood São Paulo in the Bela Vista area, with the hotel confirming her passing and stating its cooperation with the police. Since 2018, she had amassed nearly 150,000 followers on Instagram, sharing art memes through her alter ego. In 2022, she curated an online exhibition at Sotheby's called "Suggested Followers: How the Algorithm is Always Right." Additionally, she hosted the "Art Smack" podcast and was pursuing an MBA at New York University.
