Art World Roundup: The Hole Faces Payment Claims, Avedon Doc, Eve Biddle Solo, and More

The Artnet Bulletin's daily digest covers five art world stories. Artists from the '99CENT' show in Los Angeles during Frieze L.A. claim they haven't been paid for sold works, as reported by L.A. Taco. The show was curated by Barry McGee and co-organized by the Hole Gallery, which recently faced a lawsuit over unpaid sales proceeds. The Hole's owner Kathy Grayson did not comment. A documentary on Richard Avedon, directed by Ron Howard, premiered at Cannes and will stream on Netflix this fall, coinciding with a major Avedon survey at Gagosian's Los Angeles gallery featuring over 150 portraits. Eve Biddle's first solo museum show, 'Eve Biddle: Wonderlands,' opens at the Portland Museum of Art and runs through January 24, 2027, focusing on her recent photographs of nature and the female body. Biddle co-founded the Wassaic Project in 2012 and manages the estate of her mother, artist Mary Ann Unger. Bill Powers, owner of Half Gallery, has published the third volume of his memoir series, 'Alla Prima,' following 'Glissando' and 'Sfumato,' with a final installment 'Staccato' due next year. He will do a reading in East Hampton. Finally, the exhibition 'Henri Matisse—Yves Saint Laurent: Beauty, Fashion, and Happiness' at the Musée Matisse de Nice features 160 works, including haute couture and Matisse paintings, and runs through September 28.
