Art World Mobilizes for Riace: Eugenio Tibaldi Leads Collective Action

Artist Eugenio Tibaldi has mobilized over 100 figures from the art world—including critics, curators, and writers—to support Mimmo Lucano, the activist mayor of Riace under investigation by the Locri Prosecutor's Office for his migrant reception methods. The initiative began with Tibaldi contacting friends after feeling a shrinking space for inclusive values. A two-day gathering is planned for November 17–18 in Riace, aiming to show solidarity and generate public debate. A document summarizing the group's stance will be published by Artribune. The movement has expanded to include literati, journalists, philosophers, and musicians, with working groups in Rome, Naples, and Bologna coordinating logistics and outreach. A Facebook page 'artisti per Riace' will track developments. Participants include Raffaele Gavarro, Sabrina Vedovotto, Tommaso Pincio, Giuseppe D'Anna, Christian Caliandro, Andrea Cortellessa, Marco Raparelli, Davide Dormino, and Domenico Antonio Mancini. Tibaldi emphasizes the need for collective political and social change, avoiding individualism and polemics.
