Art Stage Jakarta cancels 2018 edition due to political unrest and major events
Art Stage Jakarta has cancelled its 2018 edition, originally planned for September in the Indonesian capital. The fair's organizers pointed to political instability in Indonesia, the upcoming Asian Games this summer, and the presidential election scheduled for April 2019 as factors behind the decision. Founded in 2011 by Lorenzo Rudolf, the fair is a sister event to Art Stage Singapore. It will resume operations at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City from August 2 to 4, 2019. The cancellation reflects challenges facing Jakarta's art scene, which has been analyzed by Adeline Chia. This marks a significant disruption for the regional art fair calendar.
