Art Refuge Marks 20 Years with London Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-08

Art Refuge, a charity based in the UK that utilizes art and art therapy to aid displaced individuals, marks its 20th anniversary with the exhibition '20 Years of Art Refuge 2006-2026' at Yorkton Workshops in Hackney, London, from May 13 to May 16, 2026. The exhibition showcases photographs, maps, films, images, and artifacts that illustrate the charity's efforts in reception centers in Nepal, as well as camps in Calais and Dunkirk, and asylum centers throughout the UK. Notable features include '24X24 DUNKERQUE,' a series of photographs captured over 24 hours in June 2025 with 30 single-use cameras given to refugees, Médecins Du Monde personnel, and art students from ESÄ Dunkerque, celebrating ten years of partnership with Médecins Du Monde. Additionally, 'MADE TOGETHER,' a photography initiative from 2026 involving residents and staff at a Home Office accommodation, was funded by a Hackney Council MATCH health equity grant. The exhibition will also present pop-up versions of The Community Table, an arts-based psychosocial method created by Art Refuge. A public seminar on May 14, led by Dr. Miriam Usiskin, will introduce The Community Table model. Since its inception in 2006, Art Refuge has positively impacted over 30,000 individuals. CEO Bobby Lloyd highlighted the charity's work across Nepal, India, France, the UK, Ukraine, Lithuania, and South Sudan, underlining the lasting influence of creativity.
