Art Jameel Unveils Sustainable Pavilion Tarabot at COP28 in Dubai

architecture-design · 2026-04-22

Art Jameel has launched Tarabot: Weaving A Living Forum, an immersive and sustainable pavilion located at Dubai's Jaddaf Waterfront Sculpture Park, timed with COP28. The pavilion, designed by the Beirut-based consultancy and architecture firm theOtherDada, led by architect Adib Dada, functions as an 'interspecies ecotone'—a collaborative area uniting humans and various species within both natural and urban settings. The structure is built on four foundational elements: Soil, Water, Plants, and Energy, utilizing locally sourced sustainable materials like clay, mycelium, date palm waste, and upcycled fabric. After its de-installation, it will be transformed for domestic planting and serve as an underwater habitat for coral and fish. During and after COP28, the pavilion will host community programs, talks, and presentations. Additionally, Art Jameel has commissioned Solimar Miller to create artworks reflecting UAE's flora and fauna, addressing the effects of urbanization on the environment. Fady Jameel, chairman and founder of Art Jameel, emphasized that Tarabot demonstrates a dedication to innovative solutions for global challenges, acting as a center for collaboration in art, architecture, and technology. Antonia Carver, director of Art Jameel, highlighted it as a groundbreaking space that fosters new research and materials while encouraging community engagement in envisioning a sustainable future. Tarabot: Weaving A Living Forum will be open until 30 April 2024.
