Art in Resonance Returns to The Peninsula Hong Kong with Four Site-Specific Works

exhibition · 2026-04-22

The Peninsula Hong Kong's Art in Resonance programme, launched in 2019 with Global Cultural Advisors Bettina Prentice and Isolde Brielmaier, presents four experiential installations through May 2024. Kingsly Ng's Esmeralda (2024) features 36-metre jade and ocean-coloured fabric ribbons on the hotel's Salisbury Road façade, animated by mechanics and sequenced music, referencing Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities and the concept of 'urban acupuncture' by Jaime Lerner. Elise Morin's SOLI (2019), made from roughly 30,000 pulverised CDs, sits in the reception foyer, addressing material waste and data confidentiality. Saya Woolfalk's Visionary Reality Portal (2024) offers a multisensory chamber with hand-painted flooring and 3D animations, part of her ongoing series The Empathics, exploring hybridity and digital realms. Lachlan Turczan's Harmonic Resonance (2024) uses a parabolic mirror and water to visualise sound vibrations, encouraging visitor interaction. The 95-year-old hotel, known as 'the Grande Dame of the Far East,' has previously hosted works by Tracey Emin, Michael Craig-Martin, and Richard Wilson in partnership with London's Royal Academy of Arts.
