Art from the Heart pop-up exhibition curated by Katie Peyton opens during Gowanus Open Studio weekend

Art from the Heart, a weekend pop-up exhibition and performance event, opened as part of the Gowanus Open Studio weekend. Curated by Katie Peyton of Underground Projects, the event was organized by creative agency and artist cooperative The Vanderbilt Republic. The exhibition featured artist Samantha Cohen, who described her approach to color in photography and painting. Cohen explained that color or its absence establishes mood, can surprise or satisfy, and persists even with closed eyes. She represents colors as perceived, driven by life's passion and the urgency light provides for change. The event took place at 61 9th Street in Gowanus, near the Smith-9th Street F and G subway station. Operating hours were from 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM. This marked the latest installment in an annual series presented by The Vanderbilt Republic.
