Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon Returns March 11 Across Italy and Worldwide

digital · 2026-05-05

The Art+Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon, launched in 2014, returns on March 11, 2017, with events at six Italian venues alongside international locations such as MoMA in New York and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. The initiative aims to address Wikipedia's gender gap—only 10% of editors identify as female—and to expand coverage of women artists and art professionals. Italian hosts include BASE Milano (focusing on digital art, interactivity, and experimental video games), MAXXI Rome (contemporary art, architecture, photography), the Uffizi Gallery (highlighting Sister Plautilla Nelli, subject of a March 8 exhibition), Caffè culturale Arté in Battipaglia (profiling Campanian artists and miniaturists), and the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Potenza. A separate session organized by the Ca' Foscari University Language Area Library is scheduled for March 8. Events are open to all except those in Venice and Florence, which are reserved for museum and library experts. The project is supported by Enegan Luce & Gas and promoted by Wikimedia Italy in collaboration with Wiki Donne, a Rome-based group recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation.
