Art Fair Suomi Returns for 12th Edition in Helsinki

Art Fair Suomi, the international contemporary art fair dedicated to non-profit and experimental spaces, opens for its 12th edition in Helsinki. Organized by two Finnish artists' associations, Muu ry and the Photographic Artists' Association, the fair embraces all media including performance, photography, installation, and sound art. The FOCUS ITALIA section celebrates 'Cento anni d’Italia in Finlandia. 1919-2019' with events in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Helsinki. Among them, 'Home Abroad' is a video screening curated by Lorella Scacco featuring works by six artists: Rä Di Martino, Antonio Rovaldi, and the Zapruder collective from Italy, and Lauri Astala, Marja Helander, and Minna Rainio & Mark Roberts from Finland. The theme explores spontaneous or necessary, real or imaginary relocation between countries, increasingly affecting younger generations within the European community. Other Italian artists in the festival include Roberto Fusco, a Helsinki-based Italian artist presenting a multimedia installation, and Resi Girardello with a performance cycle. Italian exhibitors include Cose Cosmiche, Cultrise, and Immuto. Talks feature Italian guests (Careof from Milan) and international guests (Catalyst from Helsinki) on the development of alternative spaces. The fair runs from May 23 to 26, 2019 at Cable Factory in Helsinki.
