Art F City's Young & Mighty March in Queens gives kids a political voice before midterms

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

On October 21, 2018, the nonprofit contemporary art platform Art F City will stage The Young & Mighty March in the streets of Queens, New York, inviting children of all ages to march and express their concerns about political and social issues ahead of the U.S. midterm elections on November 6. The event is the inaugural initiative of PARADE, a new Art F City project that commissions public and civically engaged art in Queens. PARADE is led by Paddy Johnson, founder of Art F City, and Nancy Kleaver. Johnson stated that PARADE asks not only how art can bring people together but how it can improve lives, starting at the level of civic engagement. Kleaver noted that many Queens residents are proud of its diversity but not always connected, and PARADE is an experiment in using art to overcome barriers of language, culture, religion, politics, and generation. The march aims to give young people a voice on issues that affect them, leveraging partnerships between artists and the diverse communities of Queens.
